I will consider you fortunate enough, if you have never suffered from migraine and boorishly respond to a sufferer with a comment like “it’s just a headache” otherwise at the first place you would never have made such a comment. Believe me only a true migraine sufferer knows about the truth of the fact that how frustrated he/she gets when people think “Oh you have JUST got a headache”, without understanding how painful and strenuous the real migraine can be. One should be aware of the fact that migraine is one of the most common nervous system diseases developed in the world.
Migraines in the medical terminology are referred as the vascular headaches which demonstrate that pain is caused by the change in shape and size of the blood vessels around and inside your skull. This change weakens your strength, becomes a cause of nausea, and sometimes causes the sufferer to have vision problems. It has been observed that migraines develop in boys in their early teenage as compared to girls. Nevertheless in the later stage it is 3 times more common in women than men.
Millions of people around the world suffer from migraines each year. A migraine is not simply a simple little headache. It causes several problems for people like people tend to loose work time, often have to miss family events and other enjoyments with family. There are several symptoms of migraine headaches. There could be slight ache in jaw, neck and on back of the head, loss of vision for some time, mild loss of balance, pain in the eye socket, blur vision, vomit and nausea, smelling of odors, sensitivity to light and sound, difficulty in hand and eye coordination, tiredness and weakness, loss in focused thoughts, inability to perform daily routine work, driving etc.
The question arises that what triggers migraine and how to avoid it? We see that there isn’t any single factor behind migraine headache. Different people get migraine from different reasons. However there are some general factors involved and ‘Stress’ is on top of the list. Tension stress and strain are major contributors of migraine. Similarly lack of sleep, over exertion, prolonged hunger, depression, anxiety, stress and excitement are reasons for migraines. Sometimes food stuff like chocolate, coffee, tea, diary products may trigger this disease. Environmental factors like sunrays, dust, and noise can be a factor as well.
Treatments totally depend upon the severity of pain you experience. Sometimes a simple painkiller or injection may provide you relieve. Important thing is to trace out your triggers and try to avoid them. Massage or lying silently in a quiet dark room can bring a lot of peace and relief. Drink fresh water; take fresh fruits and vegetables instead of carbonated drinks, and cut down smoking and drinking coffee if you really want to lessen this painful migraine attack.
