Any such starch that our body converts into sugar, when digested can be safely termed as carbohydrates. Food items like potatoes, bread, rice, pasta are highly rich in carbohydrates. Usually two types of carbohydrates exist. Good ones and bad ones. It’s very important to know about both in order to select and consume the healthy carbohydrates in daily diet habits. Below are a few tips to make you recognize the good carbohydrates.
- Make sure you opt for white flour with white grain flour. These white grains are high in fiber and will help to minimize the carbohydrate burden from your body. Get whole flour bread and rolls to get healthy carbohydrates.
- Try to take whole wheat or spinach pasta instead of regular pasta. It tastes very good and gives you complete healthy meal when prepared with various recipe combinations.
- Make a routine to avoid potatoes as much as you can. Find healthy substitute like cauliflower, celery roots, and turnips instead of taking unhealthy carbohydrates in the form of potato. Just boil these vegetables, mash them, add spices and get a marvelous replacement for potatoes. Don’t just totally cut down potato from your meals as they too are a provider of healthy carbohydrates, but eat in moderation. Excess of any thing is bad.
- Eat as much fresh fruits as you can. Don’t go for tined and canned fruits as they might carry artificial additives and sugar. Make fruits a permanent part of your diet. Eat seasonal fruits that are high in fiber. In case you don’t find fresh fruits, than you may opt for ‘unsweetened’ frozen fruits.
- Incorporate fresh leafy green vegetables in your diet plan. Vegetables are ‘healthy carbohydrates’ as they are rich in fiber. Moreover they provide vitamins and lots of minerals to our body. Raw and steamed vegetables retain more nutrients as compared to cooked vegetables.
- Get yourself habitual to eating beans. They carry healthy carbohydrates and proteins that are truly essential for our health. They too are rich in fiber, and help to maintain our digestive system.
